The predictive role of marital adjustment, perceived social support, and career adjustment in explaining life satisfaction in married and working women

The main purpose of this study is to examine the predictive role of marital adjustment, career adjustment and perceived social support, which are assumed to be the determinants of life satisfaction of married and working women. 300 married and working women between the ages of 18-55 participated in the study. Data were collected using the "Perceived Adjustment in Close Relationships Scale", "Career Adjustment and Optimism Scale", "Multidimensional Perceived Social Support Scale" and "Life Satisfaction Scale" and Demographic Information Form. Statistical analyses were performed using the SPSS 25.0 program, and data normality, correlation and multiple linear regression analyses were performed. The research findings showed that marital adjustment, career adjustment and perceived social support have a positive effect on life satisfaction. Marital adjustment and social support stood out as important predictors of life satisfaction. However, because of regression analyses, it was determined that these variables did not predict life satisfaction significantly on their own, but when they interacted with each other, a significant and positive result was obtained. These findings show that to increase the life satisfaction of married and working women, the harmony and social support systems provided in their close circles, in marriage and in work life, should be considered together. In line with the findings, it is recommended that social support and work-life balance programs be developed for married and working women and couples counseling be expanded.
