The investigation of angiogenesis in umblical cord of patients with pre-eclampsia

Abstract (EN)
We aimed to investigate the angiogenesis in umbilical cord of the patients with pre-eclampsia. For this purpose 45 pregnants admitted to Gaziantep University Medicine Faculty, Sahinbey Research and Application Hospital, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology have been included to the study. While 30 of the pregnants were pre-eclamptic (15 mild, 15 heavy) the remain 15 pregnants were normal. The umbilical cord fragments after birth were taken for histological examination. Preparations were stained with hematoxylin and eosin staining method and histopathological observations and measurements were made. It has been found that while VEGF intensity is higher in pre-eclamptic pregnants, there is not differency between the two groups according to CD34. As a result of the study, it has been found that arterial wall thickness and ventricle lumen diameter is significantly higher than the control. In contrast artery lumen diameter and vein wall thickness was significantly higher in control group compared with preeclamptic group. It has been found that while VEGF intensity higher in pregnants with pre-eclampsia there was not found any difference between the two groups in terms of CD34. Consequently, we found that hypoxia increases VEGF and angionesis in preeclampsia and thought that the collagen changes observed in umbilical veins may be due to enzymatic changes.
