Effects of precarious working conditions on female domestic workers

Precarity is a concept used to describe individuals working in uncertain, insecure, and low-wage jobs within the modern labor market. Female domestic workers are individuals who provide services such as house cleaning, child care, elderly care, and cooking. Female domestic workers represent one of the most prominent examples of precarity, with their working conditions characterized by insecurity, low wages, and lack of social rights, which are fundamental aspects of precarity. This study examines the extent to which female domestic workers fall into the category of precarity and the social, economic, and job security issues they face in this context. The research focuses on understanding the working conditions and difficulties experienced by female domestic workers. It has been observed that female domestic workers encounter a range of issues including insecurity, wage disputes, unclear job conditions, future anxieties, and retirement concerns as a result of their work. Using qualitative research methods, specifically semi-structured interviews, this study analyzed data obtained from interviews with 8 female domestic workers through content analysis and thematic analysis techniques. The findings of the research highlight the difficulties and insecurities associated with working under precarious conditions. The challenges faced by female domestic workers provide deeper insights into the impact of the concept of precarity on the female workforce. The results of the study reveal that working under precarity conditions is both socially and economically challenging for female domestic workers. This situation exacerbates their sense of insecurity and uncertainty, leading to concerns about their future.
