The effect of lullaby after intravenuous intervention on preterm infants

It is already known that according to the individualized developmental care approach, music played to babies is useful in many ways. In the study, the lullaby, wich is a literary and special product of music, was used. This study was carried out with the aim of examining the effects of mother's voice and father's voice at different time on oxygen saturation level (SpO2), heartbeat peak rate, respiratory rate, neonatal infant pain scale (NIPS) and whether or nor there is any distiction between mother's voices father' voices, listened by infants after painful intravenuos intervention for premature infants in neonatal care units. The experimental design study's scope is composed of preterm infants in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit of a private hospital and its sample is composed of 56 infants which meet the criteria to be included in the study. SpO2 level, respiratory rate, heartbeat peak rate and NIPS were evaluated by invtravenuos (IV) procedures (blood collection and vascular access) applied to the sampled infants, before, after and 5 minutes after listening to the mother's voice. This was applied to the same sample another time, in another IV procedures with the lullaby sung with father's voices. The data were evaluated in the statistical package program and the statistical significance limit was accepted as p<0.05. While the SpO2 level of the infants before the IV procedures was high, it was found to decrease after the operation IV and increase after the lullaby sung with mother's voices father's voices. After the lullaby sung with mother's voices father's voices it was found that respiratory rate and heartbeat peak rate were low compared to aftermath of the IV procedures. After the IV procedures while the NIPS average is severe stress 3, it was found that after the lullaby was sung with both mothers' and fathers' voices, the average decreased to 1, which is mild stress (p<0.001). As a result, it was found that after the IV procedures, the lullaby the infants were listened to the mother's voices father's voices has significant outcomes on their SpO2 level, respiratory rate, heartbeat peak rate and NIPS. When the lullaby with mothers' voices and that with fathers' voicesare compared, after the IV procedures, the increase in the SpO2 level after the lullaby was sung with father's voices rose significiantly compared to mother's voices. Between the lullaby with mother's voices and that with father's voices no significant distinction was found in terms of respiratory rate, heartbeat peak rate and NIPS level (p>0.05).
