Abstract (EN)

Investigation Of The Effect Of Perceived Social Support And Spirit Support On Birth Preference In Primigravid Pregnancy INTRODUCTION AND PURPOSE: Pregnancy is the period when women need social and spousal support the most. This study was carried out to examine the effect of social support and spousal support in deciding the mode of delivery in primigravid pregnant women. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This descriptive study was conducted with 241 primigravid pregnant women who applied to the obstetrics clinic of a public hospital between April and October 2021. "Descriptive Information Collection Form", "Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS)" and "Spousal Support Perception During Pregnancy Scale (SSPDPS)" were used to collect data. Descriptive statistical methods in data analysis; Kolmogorov-Smirnov and Shapiro Wilks test, Kruskal Wallis test, Dunn's test, Mann Whitney U test were used. Spearman's rho correlation analysis and Cronbach's alpha coefficients were calculated for the reliability of the scales in examining the relationships between parameters that did not conform to the normal distribution. Significance was evaluated at the p<0,05 level. RESULTS: The mean age of the pregnant women was 25,59±4,50 years. 79,7% of the pregnant women stated that their pregnancy was planned and 64.3% reported that they preferred normal delivery. While the MSPSS score of the pregnant women (68,67±14,06) was above the average, the SSPDPS score (28,87±13,98) was below the average. A statistically significant difference was found between the number of pregnancy follow-ups, the state of being knowledgeable about the delivery methods, the stress and anxiety state of pregnancy and birth, and MSPSS and subgroup scales (p<0,05). While the total MSPSRS score and subgroup scale scores of the pregnant women who preferred normal delivery were found to be statistically significantly higher than those who preferred cesarean section and those who were undecided, the total SSPDPS score and subgroup scale scores were found to be higher in those who preferred cesarean section. A negative, moderate, and statistically significant relationship exists between MSPSS total and subgroup scale scores and SSPDPS total score and subgroup scale scores (p<0,05). CONCLUSION: It has been determined that social and spousal supportare influential in deciding the mode of delivery. It was determined that the social support scores of the pregnant women who preferred normal delivery were significantly higher. A relationship was found between socio-demographic and obstetric data and social support and spousal support. Keywords: Birth preference, Spousal support, Pregnancy, Nursing, Social support
