Determination of antilisterial and antibiofilm properties of probiotic Bacillus coagulans

Abstract (EN)

In this study, antilisterial and antibiofilm effects of Bacillus coagulans known to have probiotic properties on the development of Listeria innocua were investigated. Microtiter plates method was used for biofilm formation and agar well diffusion method was used in antimicrobial trials. L. innocua used in the study was determined to synthesize biofilm after 48 hours. The absorbance value of L. innocua biofilms measured at 620 nm with the addition of 4% crystal violet was found to be 0.285. Absorbance value >0.1 showed biofilm formation. In the study conducted to determine the antibiofilm properties of probiotic B. coagulans against biofilms produced by L. innocua, probiotic B. coagulans and with the addition of 4% crystal violet absorbance value at 620 nm was found 0.073. As a result of this study, with direct probiotic B. coagulans inoculation on L. innocua the number of cells decreased by 6.64 log cfu / mL. This decrease indicates that the probiotic B. coagulans bacteria have an inhibitory effect on the development of L. innocua. In antimicrobial trials, no antilisterial effect of probiotic B. coagulans on L. innocua could not be determined.
