The effect of teaching problem solving strategies to mathematics academic success of 4th grade students in primary school

The aim of this study, to search requires to perform the multiplication the effect of teaching problem solving strategies to mathematics academic success of 4th grade students in primary school is to determine the effect. The study is performed in Tokat, central in 2018-2019 education first period among two primary 4th grade students. In the study, it is used the pretest and posttest design as model. The students that joined to the study are elected with the simple survey. The test group and control group consists of 10 students. It is intended to be applied to mathematics success test for the students. As the speacialist's view is taken for this study and with the item analysis programme, a mathematics success test is prepared that consists of 24 questions. Before you begin to implement both the students in the test group and the control group students mathematics success has been applied to the pretest and posttest. As a result of the preliminary test of both group levels close to each other and have been found to be similar. In the process of implementing 20 lessons to the time of the test group includes problem-solving strategies and the control group continued training with traditional teaching methods. At the end of the application, both the test group and the control group has been applied in the posttest in mathematics success. The data obtained as a result of the posttest with the help of SPPS program analyzed. When the results of the study are analyzed, it is observed that problems which require the multiplication process, improves problem-solving skills as well as improves academic success in mathematics courses with the help of the teaching problem- solving strategies.
