The effects of problem based learning on primary school 5th grade students' attitudes toward reading

The purpose of this study is to analyze the effect of implementation of ?Problem Based Learning? sessions in 5th grade, in primary school on the reading attitudes of students.For this research study, in the 2nd semester of 2010-2011 education year, it was selected 2 classes (60 students) from 5th grades of Şehit Murat Somuncu Primary School which is located in Şabanözü, Çankırı. 5-A class was selected as experiment group, whereas 5-C class was selected as control group. During the study, the scale of attitude towards reading was used as an instrument for data collection.The findings of the analysis were displayed that the attitudes of students from experiment group, to whom Problem Based Learning was implemented, towards reading are highly different from others. The findings also introduced a meaningful difference in the application of pre-test and final test. As a result, we can say that ?Problem Based Learning? raises the attitudes of students towards reading.
