Abstract (EN)
Waste heat recovery systems and alternative fuel systems are among the most remarkable well-known methods to reduce environmental pollution caused by vehicles. In this study, a new method that includes both waste heat recovery and alternative fuel systems was investigated. For converting the exhaust gas waste energy into useful energy, the combined Turbine-Peltier system (CTPS) which were made of a Heat Exchanger (HX) and thermoelectric generators (TEG) and turbine-generator were used. The experimental and numerical analysis methods were used to analyze the heat transfer and flow problems of the CTPS. The obtained results from the experimental tests of the CTPS showed that the designed system produced 190.45 W useful energy at 3000 rpm and 75 Nm engine torque. The efficiency of the CTPS was measured as 6% at 2500 rpm and 50 Nm engine torque. Moreover, the theoretical and experimental analysis methods were also used to evaluate the production of hydrogen which is called alternative fuel. According to the obtained results of the electrolysis of water, the system was capable of producing 100 ml of hydrogen in 3 minutes. As a result, the CTPS produced hydrogen using exhaust gas waste energy. The efficiency of the production of hydrogen using the CTPS was measured by 1.7% at 2500 rpm and 50 Nm engine torque. Generally speaking, this work presents a new method of using waste heat to produce an alternative fuel that can be used directly in the internal combustion engine.
