Verbal communication skills in professional coaching implementations a communication approach and a dialogue technique suggestion

This research comprises the examination of the position of verbal communication skills in professional coaching implementations and brings forward that there is a connection between coaching implementations and communication skills. From this point forth, the relationship between coaching process and communication skills will be revealed. In the literature part of the research, first the concept of coaching is defined, its appearance, aims, and content are presented, professional coaching models and its types and the dialogue techniques used in professional coaching are explained. This part also contains the clear explanation of the concepts such as coaching, mentorship and consulting. After the clarification of these concepts, communication is explained within coaching as nonverbal, linguistic and verbal, communication skills are enlightened in coaching, and verbal communication skills are explained in detail. The concepts of asking effective questions, reframing and reflection, which are nearly used in every coaching model, and which are assumed as basic communication skills that professional coaching are based, are given a place. In the research part, interviews were made with academicians, who are experts, and who are informed about communication, coaching and business management fields. Also, interviews were conducted with professional coaches and executives who got a professional coaching education and service. Lastly, interviews were made with senior executives who have been managers in different fields, as well as, human resource management. In the interviews, semi-structured questions, which were asked within the frame of the research were analysed with descriptive data analysis and the results were evaluated and commented from the perspective of communication skills and verbal communication skills. In the last part of the research, starting from the results, a communication approach dialogue technique is suggested for the coaching process and this approach's and techniques' parts are explained. This research reveals the relationship of professional coaching and verbal communication skills.
