The importance of trace elements concentrations in prostate cancer tissue: Relationship of histopathological stage, PSA, clinical survey

Özet (EN)

The purpose of this study is to investigate a possible role of tissue trace element levels in development of prostate cancer and the relationship between histopathologic stage, preoperative PSA levels and biochemical PSA recurrences. The pathology specimens of the patients who were diagnosed hystopathologically ?Prostate Adenocarcinoma? and Benign Prostate Hyperplasia were analysed at ICP-OES and ICP-MS devices. Trace element concentrations were determined and the relationship of these concentrations with PSA, hystopathologic phase and clinical course. When the relationship of trace elements with PSA, hystopathologic phase and clinical course is assessed Cd, Ni and Ca average concentrations were determined lower and in order as 55.64 µg/kg (SH:35.12, p=0.033), 784.02 µg/kg (SH:828.24, p<0.001), 656.94 mg/kg (SH:852.39, p<0.001), Fe average concentration was determined higher as 56.52 mg/kg (SH:33.10, p=0.039). When the relationship between trace element amount and hystopathologically neurovascular invasion existance is analysed, at the patients with neurovascular invasion Ca, Mg and B averages were significantly detected lower (p=0.043, p=0.016 ve p=0.033). When the relationship between extracapsular invasion and trace element levels is analysed, a significant relationship between Zn and extracapsular invasion (p=0.016). When the relationship between total gleason scores of the patients and trace element amounts is evaluated negative correlation was detected with B and statistically significant positive correlation with Se concentration was detected (p=0.003, p=0.002). When preoperative PSA levels and trace element levels are compared, although no statistically significant relationship was detected, positive correlation between Fe, Mg, Cu, Se and preoperative PSA levels and negative correlation between Cd and B was detected. No independent prognostic relationship was detected between PSA relapse and trace element concentrations.
