IV PROTON SYNCHROTRON AND MUON REGION APPLICATIONS (M.Sc.Thesis) Abdullatif ÇALIŞKAN GAZI UNIVERSITY INSTITUTE OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY JUNE 2005 ABSTRACT In the accelerator technology proton synchrotrons which have an important role for applications are used for producing proton beam which has a certain value of energy and intensity. By using proton beam from circular accelerator muon and neutron beams are produced. A neutron area which will be formed by means of neutrons will surely have various types of scientific research and application subjects. As for muon area constituting matter of this study, it has various types of application areas from life sciences to fundamental particle physics, from material science to atom physics and from biology applications to the production of energy. uSR method which is a new magnetic resonance technique and uCF suggestion causing a new dimension to nuclear energy production form important applications of muon area. In this study, superior to other magnetic resonance techniques of uSR method which can be used for any material has been showed and the last developments in energy production with uCF have been investigated. Besides, applications in fundamental particle and atom physics based on slow energy muons have been studied as well.
