The relationship between the level of resilience and conflict management style: A research on white collars

Conflict is an inevitable part of today's business life which is highly volatile, uncertain and complex. The functional conflicts as fostering innovation and high performance, has a significant role on the sustainability of the success of corporations. The major aim of this thesis is to examine the relationship between the level of resilience and the conflict management style of white collars. The sample were composed of 158 white collars of whom 101 were male and 57 were female from five different corporations. Convenience sampling as a specific type of non-probability sampling method was used. Resilience Scale for Adults, Rahim Organizational Conflict Inventory–II as research scales and a questionnaire to collect the demographic data were applied to the subjects. Analysis of the data was done with SPSS 26.0. Descriptive statistical methods were conducted to analyze the data. Independent t test for parametric tests was used for two group comparisons, ANOVA test for variables in the comparison of groups. The results show that there is a weak but positive significant relationship between 'Social Competence' and 'Integrating' style. Beside, there is a negative and low level significant relationship between 'Perception of Self' and 'Obliging' and 'Avoiding' styles. It has been found that a positive and low level significant relationship between the level of resilience and 'Integrating' style; and a negative and low level significant relationship between the level of resilience and 'Avoiding' and 'Obliging' styles. Analysis of the data shows that, married participants of the study has higher level of 'Integrating' style compared to single ones. Beside, married participants are in a higher level of 'Structured Style and Perception of Futute' dimension compared to single participants. Additionaly, the findings of the study points that the participants of the study who have the master's degree and upper level education are in a higher level of 'Social Competence' dimension compared to ones who has graduate degree or lower level of education.
