Abstract (EN)
In the we aimed to evaluate the oxidative stress in psychotic feature manic attack and nonpsychotic features manic attack in the patients who have bipolar disorder.Blood samples were taken from enrolled subjects in appropriate way and Total Antioxidant Status (TAS), Total Oxidant Status (TOS) and Oxidative Stress Index (OSI) were studied in Harran University Biochemistry Laboratory. The patients? TAS, TOS and OSI were significantly higher than controls. TAS, TOS and OSI were not significantly different between patients who havepsychotic features and who have not.The presence of psychotic symptoms doesn?t constitude an additional oxidative stress. In bipolar disorder, oxidative balance is impaired. High antioxidant levels may be an increase as compensatory mechanism against oxidant increament. Keywords: Bipolar disorder, Psychotic symptom, Oxidative stress, Total antioxidant status, Total Oxidant status
