Cephalometric investigation of the effects of Tubinger type facial mask on the craniofacial patterns in the young adult girls

in SUMMARY The purpose of this investigation is to evaluate the cephalometric changes induced by treatment with the Tubinger orthopedic mask in the girls with skeletal class III malocclusion concerned with maxillary retrognathism, who completed statural growth. The material consists of pre-and post-treatment and pre-and post-control lateral cephalometric films of 40 individuals with skeletal class III malocclusion. 20 of the total sample constitute the treatment group, while the remaining 20 constitute the control group. The mean chronological age at the beginning of the investigation was 186.37 months in the treatment group and 184.20 months in the control group. Cephalometric films were taken at the beginning and end of the treatment and control periods in order to evaluate the changes during the investigation period. Cephalometric analyses were carried out and a total of 47 parameters was measured, 18 of which were angular and 29 of which milimetric. As a result have Paired t test done for comparison in group and Student's t test done for comparison between groups; the following changes were observed: - Forward movement of the maxilla. - Backward and downward rotation of the mandible. - Increases in anterior total and lower face heights. - Mesial movement of the upper dental arch. - Improvement in the intermaxillary relation and increase in overjet. - Retroclination of the lower incisor.
