Abstract (EN)

One of the chronic complications of diabetes mellitus, which can begin at any stage of childhood, is the skeletal system. It affects bone structure and bone metabolism negatively, reducing bone mineral densities and causing bone fractures to increase in older ages. Sclerostin is a new marker as a marker of bone metabolism. Elevated levels in diabetic patients indicate decreased bone mineral density. The aim of our study was to determine the relationship between diabetic and osteoporosis in children who were diagnosed with type 1 DM by comparing the bone mineral density with the measurement of blood bone demolition and construction markers and bone densitometry in children. In our prospective study titled Assessment of Bone Mineral Density and Bone Metabolism in type 1 DM Patients in the Pubertal Period, a total of 91 Type 1 Diabetes patients, 46 of which were male and 45 were female, were completed. The individuals who agreed to participate in the study and the individuals were measured by bone mineral densitometry by Nuclear Medicine department of Celal Bayar University Faculty of Medicine. 44% of the patients are between 0-5 years of diagnosis. When the Z score of the patient group was examined, 84.6% of the patients were normal. When the Z score of the patient group was examined, 84.6% of the patients were normal. In patients, there was a strong correlation between osteocalcin and BMD in moderate correlation in the negative direction and positive correlation between BMD and corrected Z score in the positive direction. In conclusion, children with type 1 DM are at risk for low bone mineral density. The incidence of osteoporosis / osteopenia has increased in patients with type 1 DM. The level of sclerostin was higher in boys than in girls and there was a negative correlation between sclerostin and BMD. Prospective, long-term follow-up studies are needed to evaluate the effects of eliminating risk factors on BMD.
