Abstract (EN)
Plant growth regulators (PGRs), are hormones which might be produced by plant itself or were administered externally. These hormones can effect growth, development and other physiological processes of plants either positively or negatively. PGRs are used frequently at the present days to improve yield, durability and quality of the products4- Chlorophenoxy acetic acid (4-CPA) is one of the PGRs, and used extensively in greenhouses, especially for tomato farming. Usage doses and application time of PGRs are critical for the yield of products. Overdose usage of PGRs or application in inappropriate time periods effect plant growth adversely. PGRs also might have undesirable effects on human health because of their remains on plants. It is known that gender and age are important for the adverse effects of those regulatorsThere are several toxicity studies about 4-CPA in the literature. These studies spesifically focus on the reproductive and endocrine systems. In fact, in the literature it has been shown that being exposed to 4-CPA untill puberty effects the development of the reproductive organs of both male and female rats. It is also shown that 4-CPA causes apoptosis in reproductive organs in a dose dependent mannerThe liver tissue has the highest metabolic activity, and it is declared that being exposed to high doses of 4-CPA give rise to hepatocellular necrosis. However there is no study, which shows the relationship between 4-CPA and oxidant processes in the literatureBased on this information, we aimed to investigate the oxidant and antioxidant processes in the liver tissue of the male and female rats, which were exposed to several doses of 4-CPA until puberty40 Male and 40 female rats in their 20th days were used for this study, and rats were randomly divided for 5 groups for each gender.Groups were like at the bottom:Group 1: (n=8) Control (without any administration)Group 2: (n=8) SF Control 0,5 ml physiologic saline solution (PS) per dayGroup 3: (n=8) 4-CPA, 25 mg.kg-1.day-1in 0.5 ml PSGroup 4: (n=8) 4-CPA, 50 mg.kg-1.day-1in 0.5 ml PSGroup 5: (n=8) 4-CPA, 100 mg.kg-1.day-1in 0.5 ml PSAgents were administered orally throughout 30 days. The day after the last agent administration, rats were killed via Rompun (50 mg.kg-1) and Ketalar (60-100 mg.kg-1) anesthesia. An oxidant marker malondialdehyde (MDA), a natural antioxidant glutathione (GSH) levels were measured spectrophotometrically, and NOx (nitrate+nitrite) levels determined by Griess reaction in liver tissue. Results were evaluated by ANOVA and Mann-Whitney U tests. The level of significance was set at p< 0.05There was no statistically significance for MDA, GSH and NOx levels between control and PS groups of both genders. Administration of 4-CPA, increased MDA and NOx levels, and decreased GSH levels in a dose-dependent manner in all groupsAccording to our results, it might be suggested that administration of 4-CPA before puberty increases lipid peroxidation and possible inflammatory reactions independent from gender.
