Abstract (EN)

In this study, analysis of a desiccant air-conditioning system that consists of a Maisotsenko cycle, direct evaporative cooler, heat recovery units and supported by photovoltaic thermal collectors (PVT) is performed during April to October for an office building located in Adana, Turkey. Electricity and thermal energy requirements of the air-conditioning system were provided by the PVT. The generated electricity is used to drive the components and the produced thermal energy is used for the regeneration of the desiccant wheel. Hourly analysis for 21st days of the months from April to October was performed with a program written in Energy Equation Solver (EES) software. The optimum conditions for PVT system was investigated. The developed model was run with the number of serial connected PVT units of 5, mass flow rate of 0.06 kg/s and the ratio of PV area to total unit area of 0.33. Total number of the PVT units required was calculated for the months considered. The effectiveness of Maisotsenko cycle and desiccant wheel was obtained from the models in literature. The results show that the air conditioning system can provide ASHRAE comfort conditions in the office building during the April-October period.
