Abstract (EN)

The purpose of this study is to examine the life and works of Johann Joachim Quantz who played an important role in the history of flute together with the artistic movements, historic developments and philosophy of his era, and to explain them through examples. Part One of this thesis examines the life of Quantz; Part Two focuses on the musical genres and philosophy of his era; Part Three examines the works composed in various genres by Quantz. In order to examine Quantz's works in a correct way, this thesis focuses on is life, the court surroundings in which he lived, and the musical movements and philosophy of his era. The flute method "Versuch einer Anweisung die Flöte traversiere zu spielen" published by Quantz in 1752 is both an important source in terms of understanding the Baroque and Rococo styles and the flute music of the era and describes how to perform such musical forms as sonata and concerto of the era. His works are examined in this thesis by quoting from the explanations made about them by Quantz himself. This thesis examines Quantz's works in terms of form and theme, and the ways of performance are explained by giving examples of sheet music from domestic and foreign sources in order to reflect the styles of the era.
