Abstract (EN)
Posters are two-dimensional graphic design products that provide messages and visual communication in their designs. Placed in daily living quarters, poster designs are printed media products that are designed to convey information, ideas or to draw attention to a subject. Poster designs that are included in every field of human life are prepared by paying regard to design concerns and graphic design principles. Posters are designed in different sizes according to their purpose and display place and used in communication, promotion and education fields. Poster designs are also printed media products that reflect the commercial, cultural and political characteristics of the society in which they are designed. Posters are one of the important communication tools of visual communication since they are in various themes and exhibited in many places. Eyesight is one of the most important senses of communication for the human organism. First starting with the walls of caves, visual communication has evolved into shapes, symbols, hieroglyphs and letters today. With the help of technology, visual communication developing throughout the history continued with its design products such as poster design. Poster designs, which provide promotion and communication in various fields via visual communication, are mainly composed of typography and visual (photo, illustration) elements. Each of these elements in poster designs is an indicator in terms of semiotics. Semiotics is a research method that examines every element and their functions in human life such as natural languages, indicators, signs, symbols. For this reason, posters are also examined through semiotics as they contain indicators (visual, typography, etc.) that are selected and placed in accordance with the intended message for the target audience with their designs. Turning it into an indicator with writing or visualization, violence is a phenomenon used in poster designs. Because, psychologically, depressed feelings such as sexuality and violence are used remarkably on the design surface. Cinema posters are graphic design products which are in the category of cultural posters and with the help of indicators, aim to transfer the story of the movie to the target audience via its surface. The aim of the researcher is to evaluate what kind of indicators the movie posters include, and how they harbor violence, Quentin Tarantino's film posters in terms of form, content, graphic design principles and semiotics. While making this research, firstly what is the poster, for what purpose and where it is used, which graphic design principles and elements are included are explained by scanning of sources such as published books, dissertations, articles. Also, again by scanning the related publications, semiotics, the use of indicators in cinema posters and the violence in the media are explained. As a result of the research, Quentin Tarantino film posters, with the information obtained from the scanned publications are explained in terms of their design elements, indicators and how they contain the phenomenon of violence by using descriptive, historical and observation methods. Thus, the use of indicators that fit the story of the film in poster design is thought that it contains more information about the film and creates an effective language of visual expression. It is foreseen that the semiotic analysis of Quentin Tarantino film posters are essential as they are not only examples for the researches within this topic but also contribution to the field.
