Abstract (EN)
This study was designed to investigate the effect of quercetin administration on exercise, free radical and antioxidant enzym levels. The research was carried out on 12 Wistar rats weighing 300-350 grams. Rats are divided into two groups, the control group (n=6) and experimental group (n=6)After being taken under quarantine, the blood samples were taken from each rat?s heart on the first day of the experiment, and on the second day, the blood samples were taken once again after the exercise. Between the 3rd and 12th day of the experiment (throughout 10 days), 1 dose of quercetin (20 mg/kg) to each rats in experimental group, and 1 dose of %0.05 Dimetil Sülfoksit (DMSO) (1 ml/kg) to each rats in control group were administered by gavage. On the 13th day of the experiment, the blood samples from each rat?s hearts were taken after the exercise. The animals left to rest on the 14th day, and on 15th day, the blood was taken from their hearts under anesthesia. Subject?s blood lactat level measurements after being left to the rest and exercise were analyzed with the blood taken from the heart by using YSI 1500 Sport Lactat Analysor. Two independent samples t test was used to analyse all the data obtained. The value of P<0.05 was considered as statistically meaningful. The changes before and after quercetin administration were studied, the lactat levels during exercise, antioxidant enzym levels (SOD, CAT, GPx, GST) and malondialdehit (MDA) levels, the last product of lipid peroxidation, were investigated between control group and experimental group in comparation. No significant difference was detected between control group and experimental group on the 1st day during the rest and on the 2nd day during exercise. Between 3rd and 14th day of experiment, significant changes were observed according to the results in which the rats were administered with quercetin after the exercise. A significant decrease in MDA and lactat measures existed. A significant increase in the antioxidant enzym levels (SOD, CAT, GPx, GST) was detected. On the 14th day, the animals were left to rest, and according to the results of blood test taken the next day, no significant difference was seen on MDA and lactat levels. When the antioxidant enzym levels (SOD, CAT, GPx, GST) were tested, a significant increase was detected again. As a result, it was detected that the Quercetin administration helps to increase performance by breaking lactat levels during the exercise; has protective effect against free radicals by decreasing MDA levels, the last product of lipid peroxidation, and strengthens the cell? s antioxidant defense systems by being result in increasing antioxidant enzym levels (SOD, CAT, GPx, GST).Key Words: Flavonoids, Quercetin, Exercise, Free Radicals, Antioxidant Enzyms.
