iFREE VIBRATION ANALYSIS OFA RADIAL TYRE(M.Sc. Thesis)Ayhan ERDOĞMUŞGAZİ UNIVERSITYINSTITUTE OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGYJanuary 2007ABSTRACTThe comfort and safety of a passenger could be achived by holdingroad- and vehicle- vibration at a minimum level for both air vehicles andland vehicles. This issue is accomplished by using tyres, suspensionsystems, axle and seats. Since the tyre provides the contact betweenthe vehicle and the road, its importance due to this interaction requiresmore attention than other elements. In tyre analysis, the most difficultissues are the tyre materials which are made of complex compositematerials, the complex tyre geometry and how to obtain equation ofmotion for the large deformations. In this study, at the first step, the equation of motion is obtained for thethree dimensional circular cylindrical geometry instead of the complextyre geometry. Free vibration analysis is employed to compute naturalfrequencies. Furthermore, the circular cylindrical geometry is modelledby using the commercial finite element analysis software ABAQUS. Thefree vibration analysis is performed to compute the natural frequencies. All of the results obtained from the free vibration analysis are comparedwith each other.iiAt the second step, a 3-D complex geometry of laminated composite ismodelled by using ABAQUS. The free vibrations analysis is employedto compute natural frequencies and mode shapes. The results obtainedfrom the free vibration analysis are compared with the experimentalresults.Science Code : 914.1.003Key Words : Radial tyre, shell element, free vibration analysis, natural frequencies, finite element model, ABAQUSPage Number : 82Adviser : Assoc.Prof.Dr. Şefaatdin YÜKSEL
