Abstract (EN)
In the present study, we aimed at studying the effects of vitamin D administration on the ADMA, SDMA and Zn levels in liver and kidney tissues in rats exposed to gamma irradiation. Although the levels of SDMA in liver and kidney tissues were found decreased in the radiation group, this decrease was not found to statistically significant (p>0.05). Upon comparison of the radiation, radiation+Vitamin D and vitamin D groups with the control group, it was found that the ADMA level in the liver tissue was increased significantly (p<0.05). Upon comparison of the radiation and radiation+Vitamin D groups with the control group, while the ADMA level in the kidney tissue was increased significantly (p<0.05), this increase was not found to statistically significant (p>0.05). When the vitamin D group was compared to the control group, it was found that the ADMA level in the kidney tissue was decreased significantly (p<0.05). Upon comparison of the radiation and radiation+Vitamin D groups with the control group, it was found that the Zn level in the liver tissue was increased significantly (p<0.05). When the vitamin D group was compared to the control group, it was found that although the Zn level in the liver tissue was increased, this increase was not significant (p>0.05). Upon comparison of the radiation and Vitamin D groups with the control group, it was found that although the Zn level in the kidney tissue was increased, this increase was not significant (p>0.05). In conclusion, it has been shown in our study that vitamin D administration against the damage in cells and tissues exposed to radiation can be effective in the prevention of functional impairment of liver and kidney endothelium.
