Abstract (EN)

The development of remote sensing and earth observation satellites in Turkey began in 2001 with the BILSAT satellite. Exploiting the experience gain through the BILSAT satellite, the primarily nationally designed and developed RASAT satellite followed by the Göktürk-2 satellite, which is part of the Turkish Armed Forces inventory, were sent into space. As the missions in space of the RASAT and Göktürk-2 satellites continue, images taken from all corners of the world are downloaded using the ground stations located and operated in Turkey. The images from RASAT and Göktürk-2 satellites are distributed free of charge to public institutions and universities for the purposes of remote sensing research. For applications dependent upon position, the images must be referenced with a highly accurate ground coordinate system. In this work, the geometric correction of the images taken from the Turkish earth observation satellites RASAT and Göktürk-2 will be accomplished using different remote sensing programs and their results compared in terms of the unsystematic geometric errors incurred when physical camera models are utilized. The geometric correction of the RASAT and Göktürk-2 satellites will be performed on images of regions with different geographical properties. As reference imagery, Google Earth and Landsat 8 images will be used. As a digital elevation model, SRTM, ASTER and DTED data will be used. From these reference images, for each geometrical correction 50, 25, and 12 control points as well as 9 independent check points will be extracted.
