The plant Mentha spicata, or peppermint, is member of the Labiatae family, commonly used in the treatment of loss of appetite, common cold, bronchitis, sinusitis, fever, nausea and vomiting, and indigestion as a herbal agent.Although anti-oxidant effects of flavonoid containing plants have been investigated largely, studies in their interactions with enzymatic and nonenzymatic antioxidants and vitamins together with dead mentha powder are rare.The present thesis was carried out to investigate the effects of certain biochemical parameters and Mentha spicata, on antı-oxidant levels. Our study was carried out on 55 Sprague- Dawley rats, aged 2-3-months-old divided into 5 groups as 2 control and 3 experimental groups. While positive control group (C) was fed with standard rat diet, negative control group (CMC) was fed with standard rat diet+ 1ml %0,5 sodium carboxymetyl cellulose (CMC); Mentha spicata aqueus group (MS) was fed with standard rat diet + 1gr /kg bwt/day Mentha spicata aqueus extract gavage, Mentha spicata dietyleter group (MD) was fed with standard rat diet + 1gr /kg bwt/day Mentha spicata dietyleter extract+ 1ml %0,5 sodium carboxymetyl cellulose (CMC) gavage whereas 200 ppm dead Mentha spicata powder group (MT) was fed with standard rat diet + 200 ppm dead Mentha spicata powder. Drinking water is constantly ready.In this study, the profile of body weight was decreased in the experimental groups (except MT and MD) rats compared to the control group especially the 14 trial period days after malondialdehyde level, an oxidative stress parameter was obtained a decrease in statistical significance in MS group rats compared to control group K. Malondialdehyde level was obtained a increase in statistical significance in MD group rats compared to control group CMC (p=0,000). The CMC group, negative control group showed a significant decrease of MDA levels. CMC exhibit antioxidant properties of this decline may have been suggesting. In the MT group showed a increase is not statistical. In addition, the MD group, MDA, and thus increased lipid peroxidation.As we investigate the level of rats in experimental groups, antioxidant activity decrease significantly in group MD according to group CMC. In the MT group showed a increase is not statistical compared to control group K. As we investigate the level of glutathione rats in study groups, glutathione increase significantly in group MT according to the control group K. MD group, compared to negative control CMC group had a decline. GSH level differences between the groups is statistically significant (p=0,001).Even if it seems that dead mentha powder and extracts are not effective on Vitamin A and the level of ß-carotene, it draws attention that the level of ß-carotene increases in the group MD according to the other groups.In our study according to the findings, there is not any significant difference in the level of superoxide dismutase and catalase contrast to the other studies. Although, there is not any increase in the level of catalase in experimental groups according to control groups, it is observed that there is significant increase observed in the control group in a group given Mentha Spicata aqueus extract.In our study, it is observed that there is increase in the level of glutathione peroxidase in the experimental group MT according to the control group K. This increase is not significantly statistically. It is observed that there is not significant increase in the level of glutathione reductase in experimental groups according to the control groups. In our study, MT levels of vitamin C in the experiment group than the control group K was detected, but statistical significance was observed an increaseNot finding any studies about Mentha Spicata powder in literature review is remarkable and the studies featuring the increase of the effect of toxic oxygen radicals? inactivation and fenolic antıoxıdants and studies featuring to increase the parametric with the different level of Mentha Spicata powder will contribute to the other studies featuring the protection against harmful effects of lipid peroxidation.It is thought that this study will contribute to the usage of herbal anti-oxidant and studies featuring the all details of antioxidant besides the all effects of mentha. As an herbal food additive Mentha is important for protecting human and animal health in terms of feeding domestic animals and livestock. It is thought that Mentha Spicata powder may be support new studies in the developing new ration. It is thought that in the situation where production of free radicals increase and antioxidant defense mechanisms are inadequate, Mentha vill contribute as an auxiliary treatment of cases phytochemical support.Key words: Mentha Spicata L., ß-Carotene, Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Catalase, Glutathione, Glutathione Peroxidase, Glutathione Reductase, Malondialdehyde, Superoxide Dismutase, Antı-Oxidant
