Investigation of the effects of Sanggenon C on cisplatin nephrotoxicity in rats

Abstract (EN)

Nephrotoxicity is defined as the adverse effect of substances on kidney function. Some chemical agents cause nephrotoxicity. Cisplatin is a drug frequently used in chemotherapy. However, cisplatin has significant side effects. This study was planned to examine the antioxidative, nephroprotective and hepatoprotective effects of Sanggenon C, an isoprenylated flavonoid, against nephrotoxicity caused by cisplatin, a chemotherapy agent. Four groups of rats were formed. 1 mL 0.9% NaCl was injected to 1st group rats (Control group) throughout the study. Group 2 rats (Cisplatin group) were given cisplatin 7 mg/kg was injected on the 1st day of the study. The third group (Sanggenon group) was given 0.1 g/kg Sanggenon C to the rats throughout the study. Group 4 rats (Cisplatin+Sanggenon group), cisplatin 7 mg/kg was administered were administered on the first day of the study. Following cisplatin injection, 0.1 g/kg Sanggenon C was administered to rats throughout the study. At the end of the study, oxidative markers NO, MDA, TOS and antioxidative parameters GSH, CAT and TAS levels were measured in blood and tissue samples taken from rats. In order to determine the tissue damage caused by cisplatin and the effect of Sanggenon C, routine biochemistry tests AST, ALT, CREA, UREA and BUN levels and serum lipid profile were determined. In addition, histopathological analyzes of the tissues were also performed. Obtained results; shows that cisplatin administration induces oxidative stress and creates toxicity in liver and kidney tissue. When Sanggenon C treatment was applied, it was determined that the toxication levels decreased. The findings show that Sanggenon C may be a useful phytochemical to alleviate cisplatin toxicity.
