Abstract (EN)
This study aimed to determine pathomorphological signs in the arsenic-applied rats as well as investigating whether extracts and fractions prepared from the tops (its flowers, leaves and trunks) in various polarities of the plant, Cistus laurifolius L. (Cistacea) that is applied simultaneously with arsenic has a protective effect against arsenic?s toxicity in the tissues morphologically. In this study, a total of 106 Sprague - Dawley male rats at the age of 4-6 months old were used. The plant tops of Cistus laurifolius L. used fort his study were collected from the skirts ans slopes of the mountains in Afyon region, and the extracts in various polarities were prepared in the Department of Pharmacognosy of Faculty of Pharmacy at Gazi University. The rats were divided into 12 groups each having 9 rats.According to the results obtained from this study; since no clinical, macroscopic, microscopic and immunohistochemical findings were observed for the rats in group 10 in which the ethyl acetate extract of Cistus laurifolius L. plant and arsenic are applied simultaneously as well as the absence of changes in biochemicak parameters for the rats in this group, it can be suggested that ethyl asetate extract of Cistus laurifolius L. plant can be used to prevent or treat arsenic toxicity.
