Abstract (EN)

Saccharomyces cerevisiae (SC) is a budding yeast species. In addition to its benefits, Saccharomyces cerevisiae yeast has also been observed to cause many diseases in recent studies. In this study, the effects of Saccharomyces cerevisiae yeast on some biochemical parameters in rats were investigated. 24 Wistar albino rats were used in the study. Rats were randomly divided into three groups, eight rats in each group. The control group was fed with standard rat chow and fresh water. 5 ml of serum physiology was given by intragastric gavage every day. Group 1: SC suspension was applied by oral gavage for 28 days, containing 109 live cells in 1 ml. Group 2: Commercially purchased yeast was administered by oral gavage at a dose of 4,8 mg/kg for 28 days. At the end of the 28-day experimental application, blood and tissue samples were taken under ketamine anesthesia. In the serum samples obtained, glucose, triglyceride, cholesterol, HDL cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, urea, creatinine, CK, CK-MB levels were determined by autoanalyzer. Serotonin, gherelin and nesfatin levels were determined by ELISA method using commercial kits. In the obtained results, CK-MB levels were observed to decrease in group 2, while CK levels were observed to decrease in groups 1 and 2. Triglyceride and LDL levels were observed to increase in groups 1 and 2. No significant difference was detected between the groups in terms of other analyzed parameters. Nesfatin levels were observed to decrease in groups 1 and 3, while serotonin levels were observed to decrease in group 2. No significant difference was found between the groups in gherelin serum levels. According to the data obtained from the metagenome analysis, the highest level of Methanobrevibacter olleyae bacteria was detected in the control group, the highest level of Paracidovorax avenae bacteria was detected in group 1, and the highest level of Pseudomonas synxantha bacteria was detected in group 2. According to the results obtained in this study, SC application showed a significant decrease in CK-MB and serotonin levels and a significant increase in LDL and triglyceride levels. In addition, the decrease in nesfatin levels indicates that SC may have a potential effect on metabolic balance and appetite regulating mechanisms.
