Özet (EN)

This study aims to reveal the effect of watery and ethanoic extracts obtained from a plant called Sideritis akmanii, endemic to Afyonkarahisar province, Turkey on lipid profile and some biochemical parameters in rats. The study plant, Sideritis akmanii grows naturally in Kumalar summer range near Şuhut-Sandıklı road in Afyonnkarahisar province. A 200-300 g weight Wistar albino kind of male rat was employed as animal material. In the study, rats, at first, were divided into 8 groups, consisting of 6 rats for each group. The control group (Group 1) was only fed with standard rat forage. CMC group (Group 2) was given both standard rat forage and 0,5% CMC (carboxy-methyl cellulose) gastric gavage. Watery and ethanoic plant extracts were prepared. And in order to determine LD50 dose, 10 rats were taken and 5 of them were given watery extracts and the other 5 ethanoic extracts. This determined LD50 dose was administered into 6 trial group (Group III-IV-V-VI-VII-VIII) in three different appropriate doses (% 1, %2 and % 4) by way of gastric gavage. After 24 hours passed, the blood samples were taken by intra-cardiac method under xylazine and ketamine anesthetic agents, and their serums were separated. The levels of glucoses, total protein, urea, creatinine, AST (aspartate aminotransferase), ALT (alanine aminotransferase), ALP (alkaline phosphatase), cholesterol, HDL (high density lipoprotein), LDL (low density lipoprotein) and triglyceride were measured with spectrophotometer by using commercial kits. The resulting data were assessed with SPSS 13.0 program. The average of data was expressed as ± standard mistakes. For statistical significance, p˂0,05 was used. It is found that no adverse effect of watery and ethanoic extracts from Sideritis akmanii on lipid profile and on some biochemical parameters has come out in terms of health. The reduction in the levels of AST, ALT and ALP (p˂0,05) indicates that the ethanoic extract of Sideritis akmanii may play role in protecting liver. Key words: Sideritis akmanii, biochemical parameters, lipid profile, rat
