An analysis on Ravel's Miroirs and its place and importance in piano literature

Maurice Ravel's album Miroirs is among the work that stand out in piano literature with its stylistic, structural and technical features. The orchestration of the parts of the album, Une barque sur l'océan and Alborada del gracioso, was done by the composer himself, which is among the determining factors in the approach of these works and the album in general. The album has been included in the repertoires of many pianists since the date it was composed and was often performed, recorded and appreciated in concerts. With this piece, which sheds light on the richness of the impressionist writing and composition technique of the composer, which dominates the album in general, a very rich platform is created for the imagination of the listener. It also allows the use of a wide variety of palette for the performer. In this album, in which Ravel's closeness to Spanish music can be clearly seen through Alborada del gracioso; Une barque sur l'océan also stands out as one of the most succesful "water" works of the period. In this study, it is aimed to analyse Ravel's Miroirs album, to shed light on the composer's characteristic composition technique, his narrative approach in form and harmony and the variety in piano writing.
