The effects of reactive power and harmonics on energy efficiency

Undoubtedly, one of the most important support elements in the social and economic development of a country is electricity. Together with the developing technology, rising life level and increasing population, the need for this energy is increasing day by day. Nowadays, electrical power systems are spread over a wide area and various loads are connected to the energy system. Such electrical charges are non-linear. Non-linear loads cause distortion of voltage and current waveforms. As a result of this, many undesirable consequences occur in power systems such as additional losses, voltage drops, resonance events, faulty operation of measurement and control systems, and penal situations. In order to control these situations, the concept of energy quality has been established and international standards have been established and measures have been taken to prevent these problems. In this study, industrial machinery and equipments in various regions have been measured with the help of analyzer and the negative effects of harmonics on the energy quality have been determined and the appropriate filtering example has been given.
