Evaluation of angular changes in the colon after mammaplasty reduction of vertebral

Macromastia is related to many physical and psychological symptoms. Some studies showed that main negative effects of large breasts are related to vertebral coloumn. Probably, in women with large breasts, center of gravity changes due to mass effect and normal physiological gradients ingreases. Because of this effect, pressure emerges from posterior aspect of intervertebral discs causes head, neck and back pain.Symptoms of these patients are chronic, in spite of using supportive bras, taking pain killers, physical therapy and exercise.In this study we aimed to measure preoperative cervikal lordosis, thoracic cyphosis, and lomber lordosis angles and determine the pathological changes in vertebral coloumn. We evaluated that if there is statistically significant improvement after reduction mammoplasty operation.Patient with mammarian hypertrophy and had operation between January-July 2012 have included the study. Preoperative and postoperative lateral scoliosis vertebral coloumn radiographies were obtained. Cervikal lordosis, thoracic cyphosis, and lomber lordosis angles were measuerd using Cobb method. This measurement were compared using SPSS program.We have showed that, cervikal lordosis, thoracic cyphosis, and lomber lordosis angles were increased before reduction mammoplasty operation and there was a statistically significant improvement in these angles on postoperative second month.Mammarian hypertrophy is not just a cosmetic deformity. This situation causes physical problems especially pathologies in vertebral coloumn. Reduction mammoplasty is not just an aesthetic operation. Reduction mammoplasty should be the first option in macromastia for a healthy and comfortable life.Keywords: Cyphosis, lordosis, macromastia, reduction mammoplasty, vertebral coloumn
