Türkiye'de bölgesel eşitsizlikler

The main purpose of the thesis is to present a clear picture of the regional inequalities, both economic and sociologic, between the eastern and western provinces of Turkey. The issue is considered within the neo-classical and center-periphery approach. The neo-classical approach suggests that the economic and sociological development of a region is limited to the regions geographical opportunities. Therefore, from this perspective, the western regions are more advantageous then eastern regions. The center-periphery approach presents a more pragmatic reasoning for the inequalities and asserts that no matter what the advantages of the region are, it is almost impossible to have a strict equality between regions and therefore, a reasonable policy should create some centers and peripheries which are fairly unequal in terms of economic and sociological development. Results reveal that unfortunately, the inequality between eastern and western regions of Turkey is far from being fairly unequal.
