Abstract (EN)
The present study evaluated the clinical and radiographical efficacies of the enamel matrix derivative (EMD) in combined with bovine derived xenograft (BDX) (EMD+BDX) in the treatment of intrabony periodontal defects. After completion of non-surgical therapy, 10 chronic periodontitis patients with the mean age of 46.2±10.4 who had radiographical intrabony defects with a probing pocket depth (PPD) of O 6 and intrabony defect depth of O 4 mm were included in the study. A total of 15 1, 2, 1-2 walled defects were treated. Prior to surgery and at 24 months, plaque and sulcus bleeding indices, PPD, marginal soft tissue and relative attachment levels, probing and radiographic bone levels were measured. Healing was uneventful in all cases. Favorable clinical outcomes in soft and hard tissue measurements were achieved when compared to baseline. Considering the deepest site of the defects, 4.0 mm of PPD reduction (p<0.01), 3.42 mm attachment gain (p<0.01), 0.81 mm of recession (p<0.05), 2.98 mm of clinical and 3.28 mm of radiographic bone gain were obtained (p<0.01). The combined application of EMD and BDX in intrabony periodontal defects presents promising improvements in the clinical and radiographical parameters.
