Bibliometric analysis of publications titled competitiveness (1990-2023 period)

Competitiveness is a concept that reflects how well a company, industry, or country performs compared to its competitors and how successful it is, as well as how long it can sustain that success. The fact that competitiveness is a dynamic and ever-changing concept has required countries to continuously improve themselves and be innovative. With the effect of globalization, countries have transitioned from closed economies to open economies, leading to increased competition among them. Today, the concept of competitiveness in countries has become an important concept that affects the welfare level of the people. In this study, a bibliometric analysis of studies involving the concept of "competitiveness," an important concept in the field of economics, has been conducted to outline the general framework of the literature on the subject. For this purpose, data on "competitiveness" obtained from the Web of Science (WOS) database is visualized and analyzed using the VOSviewer program. In the Web of Science (WOS) database, a total of 13,426 studies in the categories of economics and competitiveness were accessed between 1990 and 2023. According to the findings, approximately 63% of these studies are research articles, and 33% are conference proceedings. The most productive year is 2017, with 995 studies produced. China is the country that published the most studies in this field, followed by the United States, the Czech Republic, and Russia. English is preferred as the publication language in approximately 89% of the studies examined within the scope of the research. In the index ranking, the publication rate of studies titled competitiveness in SSCI indexed journals is approximately 43%. In addition, the most frequently used keywords in the studies are "competitiveness", "innovation" and "economic growth ".
