The evaluation of recreation program management's dimensions in recreation management (the example of Düzce-Akçakoca festival program)

The aim of the research is to evaluate the ideas, experiences and observations of the participants (managers?, committee heads?, committee members?, and researchers?) who take part in practice of recreation program process in recreation management. The aim of the research has been questioned with two basic themes. These are; 1- The basic elements evolving from participants? ideas about recreation program management. 2- The management dimensions evolving into recreation program. In this research ?qualitative research design? was used as a model. 4 managers, 13 committee heads and 1 committee member, totally 18 participants who take part in Recreation program form an illustration for this research. In this study ?semi-structured interview? was used for interviews about gathering data. And for observation ?non-structured area study? was used by means of ?participant observation? method, in which researchers take part. The basic elements resulting from the ideas of the participants concerning recreation program are given as 4 items (sub-themes) are given. They were classified as 1- economy 2- tourism 3- education 4- culture The management dimensions of applied festival program were presented under 3 titles 1- pre-program; planning period 2- during program; application period 3- after program; evaluation period. 1- The data related to pre-program; planning period were presented as : ?program, duty sharing, presentation, budget, the profile of participants and accommodations? The data about problems determined in planning process were presented as ?program, profile of participants and accommodation?. 2- The data related to during program; application period?s phases were presented as ?flexibility of the program, duty responsibility, economic functions, security, transportation, participant interest and communication?. 3- The data related to after program; evaluation phases were presented as evaluation, benefits of festival for the town and reporting. At the end of the study; the ideas of the participants related to recreation program (before- during- after event) and management dimensions of applied recreation program were analyzed. Besides, the importance of recreation management was emphasized owing to its creating program, applying it, increasing the participation, program?s efficiency and effects on our country?s development. Also the recreation management, which isn?t enough in our country, was paid attention and new ideas were suggested.
