An examination of the participation motivations in physical activity among recreational tennis players

The aim of this study is to examine the physical activity participation motivations of individuals who play tennis recreationally in relation to various demographic variables. Accordingly, a total of 398 volunteers participated in the study, consisting of 197 males (49.5%) and 201 females (50.5%). Data were collected using a "Personal Information Form" designed to gather demographic details and the "Physical Activity Participation Motivation Scale". The data were analyzed using the SPSS 30.0 statistical software. The Cronbach's alpha coefficients for the sub-dimensions of the scale ranged between .77 and .80, indicating acceptable internal consistency. Skewness and kurtosis values were examined to assess normality, and the data were found to be normally distributed. Independent samples t-tests were used for comparisons between two groups, while one-way ANOVA was employed for comparisons involving more than two groups. Following significant ANOVA results, LSD post-hoc tests were conducted to determine the source of the differences. In addition, Pearson correlation analysis was used to examine the relationship between age and motivation. The findings revealed that individuals who play recreational tennis exhibit high levels of motivation for participating in physical activity. Moreover, significant differences were found in motivation levels according to demographic variables such as age, education level, income, weekly duration of tennis participation, and region of residence.
