Relationship between occupational satisfaction and burnout levels of recreative sports coaches

The purpose of the research is to examine the relationship between the job satisfaction and burnout levels of recreational sports coaches. The universe of the research consists of recreational sports coaches. The sample consists of 306 recreational sports coaches determined by the easily accessible sampling method. The Minnesota Job Satisfaction Scale, Maslach Burnout Scale and Personal Information Form were used to collect data. The consistency of the obtained responses was evaluated with the Cronbach Alpha coefficient. The normality assessments of the data obtained in the study were made with skewness and kurtosis values. Independent Groups t-test and One-Way Variance Analysis were applied in line with the normal distribution of the data. Pearson Correlation coefficient was calculated to evaluate the relationships between the variables. In all analyses performed, the significance level was accepted as p<0.05. According to the research results, gender and working year variables do not have a significant effect on professional satisfaction and burnout levels. However, significant differences were observed in terms of age and educational status variables. In particular, coaches between the ages of 18-22 experience higher levels of burnout than other age groups; It was also determined that high school graduates had higher burnout levels than undergraduate graduates, and master's degree graduates had higher burnout levels than undergraduate graduates. These findings show that increasing the professional satisfaction of coaches can play an important role in reducing burnout. It has been concluded that interventions are needed at individual and institutional levels, taking into account demographic characteristics, in order for recreational sports coaches to have a more productive and healthy working environment.
