Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study is to investigate stress coping styles and life satisfaction of middle-aged individuals dealing with recreative sports in terms of various variables. The sample group of the study consists of 765 participants in the middle age category residing in Mersin, Hatay and Kahramanmaraş which are the provinces of Mediterranean Region. But 750 of the data are evaluated which obtained from participants. In addition to the demographic values prepared by the researcher, in order to evaluate the coping styles of the participants, the 30-item Likert-type Stress Coping Strategies Scale developed by Şahin and Durak, Folkman and in order to evaluate the effect of stress coping levels on life satisfaction, the Satisfaction with Life Scale (SWLS) consisting of 5 questions about the life satisfaction was developed by Diener, Emmons, Lorsen and Griffin (1985) and adapted with the validity and reliability to the Turkish version by Durak and Gençöz (2010), were used. SPSS 17 statistical program was used in the analysis of the data and Kolmagorov-Smirnov test, which is one of the normality analyzes, was used in statistical program and the data was found to be distributed normally. T test was used for paired group comparisons, Anova was used for three and more group comparisons, and Pearson correlation test, which is one of the correlation tests, was used to determine the relationship between the two conditions. When the results of the study were examined, a significant difference was found between all sub-dimensions of the stress coping methods scale and the city variable. In terms of age variable, a significant difference was found. In terms of age variable, a significant difference was found between sub-dimensions of self-confident approach and optimistic approach. When the results obtained from the life satisfaction scale were examined, a significant difference was found between the scores obtained according to the gender variable.
