Rekabet ve işbirliği arasında Amerika-Çin ilişkileri: Soğuk Savaş 2.0 ?

Although US-China relations were marked by the absence of diplomatic relations between the two states until the 1970s during the Cold War period, the normalisation of relations has introduced a new chapter since that time. With the rise in economic power following the reforms introduced during this period, China has become the second major global power behind the United States in many areas such as the economy and the military by 2022. With this rise, China has become the biggest power to challenge the primacy of the United States in the post-Cold War era. Over the past decade, Xi Jinpings's administration in China and the strategies pursued by US administrations have increased tension. This has led to a competition between the two states that can be defined as the competition of the great powers to become the dominant power in the international system. However, the rising of globalisation and the impact of interdependence since the 1990s have created many areas of cooperation in bilateral relations. The dynamics of these relations, which vacillate between competition and cooperation, have given rise to discussions of a New Cold War similar to the US-Soviet Union rivalry. The aim of this research is to analyse the state of China-US relations between rivalry and cooperation, in order to reveal the similarity of the dynamics of their relations with the Cold War in terms of great power competition.
