The relationship between the cloze test, cloze tasks, and young learners' achievement

Traditionally, the cloze test has been utilized merely to evaluate readability and comprehension. This study sought to determine the association between students' success on cloze tests and cloze tests as a measure of academic achievement. The participants were 42 non-native female and male young learners in a private school in Turkey. The analysis of the data was obtained from two sets of cloze tests including standard and nonstandard tests that are administered in a time interval and the achievement tests administered by the institution. The data obtained from 20 tests in total were analyzed through descriptive statistics, correlation, and factor analysis. The positive outcomes suggest that cloze tests may serve as a way to gauge student achievement in language classes with young students.
