Abstract (EN)

The thesis titled "The Effect of Color on Meaning and Form in Sculpture Art" is a work of text. The purpose of this study is to display a work in which the color is applied in the context of the work by examining the relationship between colors and meaning and form in the field of sculpture from the Ancient Period to modern art practices, along with the geographical, cultural, religious, political and social features. In addition, the purpose of this study is to reveal the preferences of colors for mental physical and optical purposes by reviewing colors on the previously created works. It is aimed to show how the direct effect of color on sculpture can be transformed with individual, social, cultural and geographical experiences between the text of the work and the work created from the data obtained as a result of the research. In the thesis's extent, in addition to deal with Works of art which has become prominent by the use of color from the ancient civilization to the present time, researches that have been theorized and applied, philosophical opinions, sociological comments and scientific studies are also evaluated by determinant roles of use of colors. The methodology of the research, with the concepts and areas on which color has been used in the sculptures over the centuries, how it has changed iconographically, how polychrome has become traditional, why and how the perception of whiteness, which has been described as the process of disengagement from polychrome or colorlessness, and how it has started to be used again in the art of sculpture. It is based on the reasons why its habits differentiate color palettes. In the light of this methodological approach, a visual string covering the works of the artists who use the color as a form of expression and a constituent element of the form in their production was created and the effect of the colors on their works was analyzed. As a result, with this research and application process, XXI. Until the 19th century, the use of color in sculpture art is determined in the light of religious, cultural and geographical features depending on the production style and color becomes a factor that directly affects both the meaning and the shape of the sculptures.
