Abstract (EN)
This study aims to determine the effects of wood material and varnishes on combustion properties. For this purpose, samples prepared from wood of Oriental beech (fagus orientalis L.) and scotch pine according to ASTM D 358, were covered with waterbased and synthetic varnishes after bleaching with 18 % solution of sodium hydroxide (NaOH), hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), calcium hydroxide (Ca(OH)2) and sodium silicate (NaSiO3). Combustion properties of bleached samples were determined according to ASTM E 160-50. According to the result of the research, flame source combustion temperature, according to interaction of wood types, bleacher and varnish types was gained the highest temperature S+R2+Sb (501.3), the lowest temperature Dk+Sn (368.9); without flame source combustion temperature, according to interaction of wood types, bleacher and varnish types was gained the highest temperature scotch pine (647.4), the lowest temperature Dk+Sn (543.4); glowing combustion temperature, according to interaction of wood types, bleacher and varnish types was gained the highest temperature Dk+R3+Sb (572.0), the lowest temperature Dk+R3+Sn (235.2). If needed fire resistance in furniture and decoration application, it is suggested to use scotch pine wood wish synthetic varnished and bleached with R2 solution (NaOH+Ca(OH)2+H2O2).
