Abstract (EN)
In this study, 77 patients who applied to the Ophthalmology Clinic of Eskişehir Osmangazi University Faculty of Medicine Hospital and underwent surgery for strabismus for the second time after strabismus surgery and 75 patients who underwent strabismus surgery but did not develop recurrence were included. Patients were divided into 2 groups as reoperated and control group. Some of the patients included in the study consisted of patients who had been previously operated on in an external center and developed recurrence, and the consecutive and residual deviations were included in the reoperation group. Patients with a deviation of 20 PD or more after the first operation were considered as recurrence. Patients with a deviation less than 20 PD after the first operation were included in the control group. Patients were examined 3 times; on the same day, 2-4 weeks and 6 months after surgery. In the study, it was shown that asymmetric surgery, lack of alternation, younger age at first diagnosis and age at first surgery, shorter follow-up period, lower visual acuity in the left eye, higher preoperative near and distance deviations, higher NPC, and higher lens thickness in the right and left eyes were significant in terms of recurrence. The study showed that factors such as gender, family history, history of prematurity, presence of comorbidity, presence of additional ocular disease, presence of amblyopia, globe movements, convergence insufficiency, presence of fundus pathology, presence of diplopia, stereopsis level, forced duction test positivity, right and left SE, anisometropia, visual acuity of the right eye, AC/A, right and left axis length, right and left anterior chamber depth had no significant effect on the development of recurrence. In conclusion, it should be kept in mind that there are many factors affecting the success of strabismus surgery; therefore, alternative methods should be developed in addition to the classical standard surgical interventions; in addition, early diagnosis, careful preoperative evaluation and timely surgical intervention may increase the success rate.
