The research on communication skills and level of agression of hockey players

The purpose of this study is to investigate the communication skills and level of agression of hockey players as well as, bring out whether or not their age, education, financial status, the length of time his in volvement in the sport, and their positions in the game affect their communication skills and level of agression. The target population of the current study consisted of males and females, who are currently playing in Turkey Hockey Federation. As to the sample, 261 (129 males, 132 females) from ten men's team and ten girls team, which participated in open field hockey Champions League Competition 2013 organized by the Hockey Federation of Turkey in Ankara, voluntarily participated in this study. Communication skills scale developed by Korkut (1996) and aggression inventory developed by Kiper (1984) were used as data collection tools. As a result, the communication skills of the male and female hockey players who participated in our study were high in general. However, their destructive aggression and passive aggression scores were below the average. Besides, their communication skills increased as well as their assertiveness behavior. In fact, while their communication skills increased their aggression and passive behaviour decreased. In conclusion the study showed that the destructive aggression increased, as a consequence of the increase of passive behaviour.
