Abstract (EN)
This thesis evaluates the reservoir rock in the Hilala wells field of the Ogaden basin using petrography and porosity tests, to enhance petroleum potential understanding and optimize hydrocarbon exploration efforts. The aim of this thesis is to improve exploration efficiency and enable sustainable hydrocarbon utilization in the Ogaden basin. Petrographic analysis enabled the interpretation of the mineral constituents, textural characteristics, and structural attributes of reservoir lithologies, while core specimens were evaluated for their physical properties, such as porosity. The outcomes derived from these analyses were synthesized to furnish a holistic characterization and to delineate critical factors that affect hydrocarbon reservoir efficiency. The investigation revealed notable divergences in mineral composition, indicative of varied geological origins. Samples enriched in quartz suggested a pronounced potential for oil reservoirs, whereas those abundant in clay or biotite exhibited suboptimal conditions attributable to inadequate sorting and diminished porosity. The presence of angular grain morphologies indicated limited transport and weathering processes. This research emphasizes the significance of careful petrographic examination in the kingdom of hydrocarbon exploration and emphasizes the necessity for modified strategies predicated on mineral composition and textural heterogeneity. The incorporation of petrographic and porosity data smooths a broad comprehension of reservoir potential, thereby informing prospective exploration endeavours within the Ogaden basin. This investigation contributes an extensive characterization of the reservoir lithologies, identifying essential elements that influence hydrocarbon reservoir performance.
