Views of painting art major students about the effects of interaction between arts on visual arts education: Gazi Üniversitesi Education Faculty example

The purpose of this study is to determine the views of students who are under Painting Education (Visual Arts Education) about the effects of interaction between arts on visual arts education. This research is a descriptive study using scanning model. Research data, consisting of open and closed-ended questions were obtained by questionnaire method. Students who constitute the research group are senior students from "Painting, Sculpture, Graphics Main Art Branch,", Art Departmant, Gazi Education Faculty Fine Arts Education Departmant (n=74). Analysis of the data frequency (f), percentage (%), mean ( ) values and Kruskal-Wallis H test are used. Results of the Survey: Students in the survey approve closed-ended questions contained in article 21 in the nature of "Views about the effects of Interaction between Arts on Visual Arts Education" with a score of "3" and above arithmetical average ( . It has been shown that students need to gain much more knowledge on art branches (architecture, literature, music, cinema, etc.) that are not included in their cirruculum as well as interaction between arts and are also eager to gain knowledge and pursue studies on these art branches. It is seen that students do not completely refuse "discipline centered art understanding" while supporting "totalitarian art." According to the answers students have provided for the open-ended question in Article 22: Students who produce the highest number of artwork with a same theme from an art branch that is different from the art branch and the elective art atelier courses they study are Graphic Major Art vi students. Students who produce the lowest number of artwork with a same theme from an art branch that is different from the art branch and the elective art atelier courses they study are Sculptute Major Art students. "Architecture" is the most preferred art major to conduct a study with the same theme. "Music" is the least preferred art major to conduct a study with the same theme. Views of the students on articles 11 and 14 are observed to possess meaningful differences according to the art majors they study: Graphic and Sculpture Major Branch students pay less attention than Painting Major Art Students in learning "interaction between arts" in atelier via demonstration. Graphic Major Art Branch students support the view of learning interaction between arts would affect visual arts education in a positive way than Painting and Sculpture Major Arts students. According to these findings, some proposals about the improvement of the interaction between different branches of art and visual arts education and the future researches about this subject are presented.
