City as an image in painting

The city has functioned basically as a shelter, since the first ages of humanity, but over time this function has diversified. The city, which was used only as a shelter at first, also shaped the aesthetic perceptions of the individual. It has been also a research theme for various disciplines and influenced not only the people who live there, but also the artists and their works of art. For this reason, the way in which the artists approach the city as an image in the history of art and the transformations of these ways became the main subject of this work. The city is on inorganic construction built on an organic organism. The subject that the researcher dwells on especially during his production process is the conflict of the organic organism, which is the nature, and the inorganic. Over time, this conflict has lifted its effectiveness in parallel with the change of the city. Therefore, through the art movements both the city and the reflection of its image have constantly changed. Every artist in art movement has depicted the city differently. Sometimes, the city is used as a background of an artistic design, while sometimes it is used as a support to main issues or as a main issue itself. The city in an art movement can be seen as a tool to reflect the inner world of the artist; however, in another movement, it is divided into geometric forms and became the main theme of a painting as a fragmented image. This is about the change of architecture, culture, technology, and even the conditions of the earth that causes the city to transform itself in time. Despite all this transformation and change, it is seen that the city has been an issue in almost every art movement throughout the history of art.
