Özet (EN)

The main objective of this dissertation titled as? The Relationship of Sound in Art and Color in Music? was to realize a focus on art through sound, motion, tone, harmony, timbre and color connection, particularly by examining the process seen in the 19th and 20th centuries through music. In the first chapter, a brief review was given about music and the technical knowledge of some concepts were provided. The place of sound, nature, motion, tone, harmony and rhytm in music and their effects on people were mentioned. The emotional aspect of music was supported by scientific explanations. Sound is the output of motion and appears when there is silence. Music, which is the only form of art that is isolated from matter, finds its shape only in sound. Sound gains an expression in music as a language and it is known that it can not be translated. Sound is the main component of music whereas rhytm is the essence of it. And this rhytm in music is the most important factor of the effect that the music has on people. Similarly, colors have also influenced people. The relationship between sound and color constitutes the parts of the whole,an a harmony. The entirety of these two art forms which have taken place through the history of art was mentioned and it was reinforced by means of giving examples. This relationship that initiated in the 19th century with the romantic movement was more concentreated in 20th century. It was not considered only as the art of painting, but also plenty of information about music was provided. For instance, in the 19th century music, composers Franz Listz and Modest Mussorsky composed their works through the art of painting. In art of painting, Kandinsky and Klee used the entirety of color and music as a main theme and carried on their works under the influence of contemporary composers.Later, especially in art environment that developed after 1960s, a kind of wholeness, in which many disciplines were used, was formed. As a result of the studies carried out about artists and their works, it is clearly seen that music has changed art in terms of both perception and emotion. For example, the performances by the composer Cage opened a new trend in that period. In the last chapter of the dissertation, the studies that were conducted as a result of the conceptuality of music in art, its perception and attractiveness as an image, were mentioned. The studies were performed by making use of video, photograph and canvas painting, which are three different disciplines. In the Works, in which the concentration was given on color-colorlessness, sound-silence, line, vertical or horizantal, not only the music in art was questioned, but the significance of how the art was accepted was also clearly explained.Key words1.Music2.Motion3.Color4.Line5.Rhytm
