From the point of view of the teachers and administrators who work at the state primary schools the things that prevent woman teachers from making a career”

The aim of this study is to find out the obstacles that prevent the female teachers who already work in the state primary schools from making a career. In order to achieve this, the teachers and the school administrators were asked their opinions on this issue. A general scanning model was used for the model .The research was conducted at the schools in the district of Bahçelievler, on the European side of Istanbul. There are 140 school administrators and 1990 teachers in Bahçelievler district. The scales validity and reliability tests were made by researcher and it is applied to 39 administrators and 467 teachers. The sample of the research covers totally 506 administrators and teachers. `The disproportionate subject sampling? was used in the research. The data for the study was obtained by scanning the literature about career obstacles for female teachers and by using the ?The Career Obstacles Scale for the Female Teachers? developed by the researcher. The scale is composed of two parts. There is a questionnaire for personal information about the teachers and the administrators in the first part of the scale, and 31 career obstacles for the female teachers take place in the second. The SPSS?11 packet program was used for the analysis of data obtained. And, in order to analyze the data, arithmetic approximation and the values of standard variables were used. Also, a t-test for the independent groups was used to find out the differences according to the variables of status, whether they ever got an award or had an in-service education, Finally, to find out whether there is a big difference in their thoughts, the test of Turkey HSD was used according to the variables of the marital status, the educational status, the ranking status, even the working hours and the number of children they have. As a result of the research, according to the gender variety, a big difference between the thoughts of men and women was observed concerning the family affairs. The difference arises from the thoughts of women. At this point, compared with the men, women see home and family affairs as a big obstacle in front of the careers of females. When the teacher and the administrator opinions were analyzed based on the variety of getting awards, there is a big difference between them on the issue of career obstacles for the females concerning family affairs, economic situation, school and social environment. There is not much difference in what the teachers and the administrators think for the variables of working hours, the number of children, the in-service education, ranking situation, marital and educational status.
